Some people may already have heard rumours or seen pictures of LOTR sets.
- Sets
- 9469 Gandalf Arrives — Cart, fireworks, horse, 2 minifigures
- 9470 Shelob Attacks — Shelob, bit of cave, 3 minifigures
- 9471 Uruk-Hai Army — Part of the Helm’s Deep wall, horse, catapult, 6 minifigures
- 9472 Attack on Weathertop — Weathertop, 2 horses, 5 minifigures
- 9473 The Mines of Moria — Balin’s tomb, well, door, parts of the cavern walls, cave troll, 8 minifigures
- 9474 The Battle of Helm’s Deep — Gateway, wall, tower, throne room, siege ladder, horse, 8 minifigures
- 9476 The Orc Forge — Building with waterwheel, forge, 5 minifigures
So far, I have not seen pictures for an LOTR set with a number of 9475. However, there was a rumour that I heard about a Boromir/Faramir battle pack with the set number 9475. Don’t go circulating it all over the Internet as a fact, however. It is only a rumour!
There is another set with 9475 as its number. It is called ‘9475 Ideas for Action Junior Project Works’ and was released in 1992. LEGO has made sets with the same number before, though. It shouldn’t put LEGO off.
- Minifigures
- 9469 — Gandalf, Frodo
- 9470 — Frodo, Sam, Gollum
- 9471 — Eomer, Rohan Soldier, Uruk-Hai (4)
- 9472 — Frodo, Aragorn, Merry, Black Rider (2)
- 9473 — Boromir, Gimli, Legolas, Pippin, Moria Orc (2), Skeleton (2)
- 9474 — King Theoden, Aragorn, Gimli, Haldir, Uruk-Hai (3), Uruk-Hai Berserker
- 9476 — Lurtz, Uruk-Hai, Mordor Orc (3)
If I was given the choice about which minifigures I would put in the Boromir/Faramir pack, I would choose Boromir, Faramir, and two Gondor soldiers. If the pack was to be like the new Star Wars battle packs that have two protagonists and two antagonists, however, I would choose Faramir, a Gondor soldier, and two Southrons. If you don’t know what Southrons are, you can ask me in a comment.
The minifigures for the sets are, in my opinion, well chosen. I would like a few more Uruk-Hai in The Battle of Helm’s Deep, though. The preliminary picture showed 5 Uruk-Hai instead of 4. I would have preferred that number. I would also like to see a Saruman minifigure in The Orc Forge.
- Notes
- LEGO is reusing the Highland Battler and Gladiator swords from Minifigures.
- There is a new mold for Sting. It comes in 9470 and 9472.
- The horses have been remodeled – their heads are more rounded and their back legs can move, as if rearing. They also have much more printing than the ‘old’ mold of horses. So far, they have been in two colours – brown with white foreheads and noses, and black with armour on their heads, for the Black Riders. I don’t think that the Kingdoms unicorn helmets and the older horse helmets will fit on them, though. I hope I’m wrong about that, but I don’t think I will be.
- There is a long white string and a red hook in 9470, so you can tie Frodo up or hang Shelob from the ceiling!
- There is at least one cloak in every set except for 9476.
- Pictures!
